There are traditional professions that amazingly survive, this man works every day at mercado do bolhão near yesterday tiles and as you can see he's so good on his job that he doesn't need to look to the shear, i don't know if the women on the left is worried with her shear or with man's finger.

...advertisings were made with tiles, fortunately some survived and this one at Mercado do Bolhão is a good example.
I'm writing a letter to city council because this bathroom doesn't respect small ones, how can a terrier clean his sh&%%$# and put the bag on that basket?
Be honest, do you clean what your dog let behind?
This building is where Jornal de Noticias is made, one the biggest newspapers in Portugal.
Another cascata de S.João from a shop, this not for sale just decoration.
This place used to be full of flowers, now is full of nothing.
We all make mistakes and this great architect made the biggest of his life.
Portugal 1-0 Holland
We won but no comments
Another tradition is S.João balloon and this one was threw away by my family.
Since my private party with my family and friends was so long and good i have no downtown photos, sorry:(, if someone could send me photos of this night i'll publish them to show this great night.
Let me tell you how is going to be my friday night(today) shortly, after work i'm going to be grilling sardines and drinking some white wine to help this hot job, after that it would be full time drinking wine and eating sardines with bread and a lot of other things that each one of us take. After this hot dinner it´s time do go downtown with a plastic hammer and bang it on others head(you'll see this tomorrow) and waving garlic under each other's noses. All city districts would be full with thousands of happy people, music and food.
Tradiction says every city district have is own cascata de S.João to run on a competition, this photo is from the one in front of city council (it's not that i'm happy with them, i'm not, neither is the best but simply because is near my house).
You are obligated to see this photos from the day before the big day
An article about this event here
My head is on friday night, our S. João Night. It all begins some days before with the creation of “cascatas” – displays of pottery popular figures, each in its own style, all over the streets – as well as with the street and public places decoration and the sell of the “alho porro” and the “manjerico” (typical plants), the herbs set and the lamb.By night, people fill the streets celebrating the summer solstice and the image of a saint, which was once a martyr and is now a reason for a popular celebration.
In the last days i didn't walk much to have photos from this events but from now on i will do that, since i don't have (yet) any picture about S.João festivities that i like so i posted this one from my favourites experiences, it has some Gimp work to make this downtown photo older. In this photo you can see this tower and was taked from here and gives a view of rua 31 de janeiro.
Next days this blog will have some music representative of this Festivities and photos of course, so enjoy it:)
Hey! dutchiiie, i think that orange thong goes to wardrobe on sunday:):)

Portugal 2-1 Mexico
I told you...
The Tower of Clérigos Church can be easily seen on different angles all over the city, the city silhouette has always this majestic baroque tower from the architect Nasoni, finished in 1763 is an emblem to Porto today.

Older people are always telling of their adventures when kids, one was to travel on trams but outside and without pay, as you can see there are still kids that don't think only on Playstation and like real(dangerous) action.
This photo is inverted because i pointed my camera to the mirror of my car.
This is our City Hall.
Some pigeons walking at ribeira and DP bloggers seems to multiply like them, we are already more them 100!
Portugal 2-0 Iran
Who's next? :)
If you visit Porto and go inside this building for an official reason i just hope would be the right one.
After heat wave we now have clouds and rain but i like this hot weather with rain, except the place where i got this photo was a little cold with Douro River as background.
Last night i shot my first lightning from my home, it was an hour of non-stop lightnings and for those who never tried it's not easy, let's say we have something to shot at 300000Km/s but never know when its going to happen, i have to take 50 shots to get this one because i must point and shot to nothing and wait for luck. A better one from Porto aswell could be seen here.
Everybody knows the world cup has just started, now join two countries with a lot of common in history, very good relations between people, both crazy by football and the result is this world cup madness:D
With all this hot sun sometimes we need to stop for refreshing on a place like below Arrábida Bridge already showed here.
World cup starts today for Portugal, but for this guys at Praça Marquês de Pombal and here its world cup everyday, if Portugal football team use 1% of the tricks this guys use playing cards i bet 100% the final is ours.
Today is National day of Portugal, Camões(c. 1524 – June 10, 1580) and the Portuguese Communities, as you could see in wikipedia Camões is considered Portugal's greatest poet and symbolizes portuguese language like Shakespeare to english. This picture is from the inside of Pavilhão Rosa Mota, this hall is for sports but other events share this space, a book market is running now and on my visit i point ed my camera to the ceiling. Who want´s to visit this market has to hurry up because it ends on sunday.
If you want to see orange thongs by dutchie and friends please visit rotterdam and leave a comment!
After the annouce of this jacarandá in blossom on this therapeutic blog(in portuguese so is never late to start learning!) i couldn't resist to go there to show this beauty for you, my daugther born in front of this tree in an hospital behind me, so if she openned her little eyes when on the window this tree was probably the first one she saw:)
This is me delirating, but i like it.
ps:if you are seeing this post its because my self control is telling me to give a second chance to blogger:S

Porto is loosing population to neighbours cities and have, like the rest of the country and europe, a problem with older population growing faster then younger, this will be a big issue to solve in next years because social security maintenance.
Some could say its because of the heat, others agree i'm sick or even pervert for it, but i'm only someone who likes womens and sometimes they are everywhere:S
Can you find where she is? Help me, say i'm not the only one to see her!

Yesterday i found this tiny boat with my first two names, don't know why but i'm happy with this discovery:), it's a nice boat full of sympathy!
Another perfect weekend, this sunday i went to a recreation of an old street market style, today we still have street markets but this one was different with the right costumes and products from those old days, and what great food i tasted! Sorry didn't remained nothing to you:S

Today a demonstration was made by this photographers on this building (used to be a prision until 1974), it is a Photography center from a governmental instituition dedicated to all issues related with photography and his history in Portugal, some rumors were spreaded that this instituition will end but fortunely it was wrong information and just adjustments are going to be made on the instituition structure. Anyway was fun to see photographers takin photos to photographers, me..., well just take one or two and run away since i felt intimidated by all those professionals with huge lens and cameras.
Today i saw this gorgeous red car with 3 wheels, one central wheel on the back and two for traction, sorry but forgot to see which model was but with steering wheel on the right i'm sure it's british.
This could be my perfect car for summer but...

Using yesterday theme as a tip i want to show you this house i discovered this week, besides being a pretty house its the confirmation on how bad parking is to people sanity, i'm sure the resident got crazy because the house is for renting now, and why?
A closer look finds that a garage door is on the left half of the house, the red door and the window with the sign are garage doors and i bet lots of people park in front of it because the house have yellow marks on street, prohibited parking sign and a little blue blox on red door telling your car goes for a ride for sure towed away by police.
Here they are, the evil machines that cause so many troubles to people. But with only 0,60€/hour you are free, it's a low cost compared with other cities(i hope no one in the city council read this post) among the fact we have one big problem with parking space and too many cars after a join to the mix with selfish people we have an explosive result. The result is double parking, sidewalk parking and caos sometimes with pedestrians having to walk on street. One thing that really annoys me is sidewalk parking and worst is people think it is normal and have the reason on their side. Another funny fact is the chance of your car being sorted with a ticket is much bigger if don't pay the park then double park or park in the sidewalk!
And now i'm going to rest a while of critics to city council, until tomorrow;)
ps:if your are in the group that think i'm wrong i can tell you i walk a lot and feel happy not to prejudicate others life!

About Me, Porto and this blog
Hello, my name is Nuno Gonçalves and since i was born in 1975 i never tought one day i would be living in Porto but that happened in 2000 when i moved here to finish my studies and start working as software developer.
Sometimes the unexpected is good and this was the case because i assume before living here i didn't know how intense and great is to live on this historical city with a 1,000-year history. Meanwhile I have married, have a lovely daughter and settled downtown with no plans to move out. Since i'm not native my interest by Porto history has been always present from the 1st day i move, now is even more interesting because of this blog i pay more attention with some details that are now converted to big issues. The idea of starting PortoDailyPhoto was at the moment i look at LondonDailyPhoto by Ham and found it a great way share my long walks and use my compact camera, i'm a complete amateur who have bought a small camera just to take some pictures to my family and now i take shots of everything and sometimes i remember my family!
